Postpartum Therapy for New Moms in Brooklyn and Virtual
The postpartum period is one of the most demanding transitions a person can go through. Many new mothers feel overwhelmed, exhausted, guilty, or unsure of how to manage everything they are carrying. Postpartum therapy gives you space to breathe, understand what you are feeling, and reconnect with yourself. Postpartum Depression is common but does not have to be experienced alone.
Postpartum therapy can help with:
Postpartum anxiety, depression, or intrusive thoughts
Overwhelm, overstimulation, and emotional exhaustion
Adjusting to life with a newborn or multiple children
Feeling disconnected from your partner after baby
Resentment around the mental load and unequal responsibilities
Loss of identity or not recognizing yourself anymore
Mom guilt, comparison, and the pressure to do it right
Irritability or anger that feels hard to talk about
Returning to work, navigating childcare, or staying home
Our training and approach:
We are certified postpartum mental health counselors through Postpartum Support International. We use a relational approach and cognitive behavioral therapy, and also support parents with behavioral parenting interventions.

Matrescence Therapy in Brooklyn and Virtual
Matrescence is the developmental process of becoming a mother. It changes not just your schedule but your identity, your relationships, and your sense of self. Most women feel it deeply and have no language for it. That is the work we do at MLP Therapy Group.
Matrescence therapy can help with:
Feeling like you have lost yourself since becoming a mother
Grief for your pre-baby identity or life
Anxiety that feels more like a constant hum of dread than a diagnosable condition
High-functioning overwhelm: holding it together while feeling depleted inside
Emotional disconnection from yourself or the people you love
Old wounds or childhood dynamics resurfacing in unexpected ways
Not recognizing yourself anymore
The identity shift of matrescence happens inside a partnership and changes that partnership too. Feeling disconnected from your partner after having a baby is one of the most common experiences couples have and one of the least talked about. We work with both individuals and couples navigating this transition.
Our training and approach:
We have specialized training in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International and couples work through the Ackerman Institute for the Family.

EMDR Therapy for Trauma in Brooklyn and Virtual
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps you heal from painful or overwhelming experiences. When distressing events are not fully processed, they can show up as anxiety, shame, triggers, or patterns in your relationships. EMDR helps your brain finish the job.
EMDR therapy can help with:
Trauma and PTSD
Anxiety and panic
Grief and loss
Relationship difficulties rooted in past experiences
Chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation
Negative beliefs about yourself that feel hard to shift
Emotional reactions in relationships that feel bigger than the moment
How EMDR works:
During EMDR, your therapist guides you to focus on specific memories or sensations while using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, alternating tones, or light taps. This supports both sides of the brain in working together, reducing emotional intensity and shifting negative beliefs. Many clients find that painful memories feel more distant and less charged as they move through the process.
Our approach:
We offer EMDR therapy virtually, which allows clients to complete the process from a place that feels comfortable and secure. We have completed EMDR training Levels 1 and 2 through the Personal Transformation Institute. Sydney and Melissa are Trained in EMDR.
